SWAN Commiserates With NFRA Over Death Of President Sani Zubairu

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commiserated with the Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA) over the demise of its President, Mallam Sani Zubairu, on Tuesday.

In a letter of condolence addressed to the leadership of NFRA, SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo described Mallam Zubairu as a distinguished administrator who made so much impact with the whistle in his active days as a FIFA Referee.

Part of the letter reads, “On behalf of the National Secretariat of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), I write with deep sorrow to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Executive Board and the entire family of the Nigeria Football Referees Association on the passing of your esteemed President, Mallam Sanni Zubairu.

“The news of his demise is a painful loss, not only to the Nigeria Football Referees Association but also to the entire football community in Nigeria. Mallam Zubairu was a distinguished leader whose dedication, integrity, and passion for the development of refereeing in Nigerian football stood him out as a pillar in the game.

“Mallam Zubairu, a jolly good fellow and good partner, has contributed immensely to the growth, organisation, and professionalism of refereeing. He helped to strengthen the credibility of football across the nation. His leadership and commitment will be deeply missed by colleagues, officials, and stakeholders in the football ecosystem.

“At this difficult time, SWAN stands in solidarity with the NFRA, his family, and loved ones. We pray that Almighty grants you all the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and may his soul rest in perfect peace.”

The remains of Mallam Zubairu is scheduled for burial later on Tuesday in Bauchi, in line with Islamic rites.
