Ukraine war: Celebration in key city as Zelensy’s troops flush out Russia

Cheering crowd! That was what greeted the arrival of Ukrainian troops today in Kherson.

BBC reports that Ukraine is now “almost in full control” of the city which Russia captured way back in March.

Earlier, Ukrainian flags appeared in Kherson after Russia said it had completed the withdrawal of thousands of troops.

BBC further gathered that some Russian soldiers left in the area are taking off their military uniforms, and trying to blend in with locals.

Despite this development, a Kremlin spokesman insisted that losing the key southern city is not a humiliation for Vladimir Putin. He said Russia was only redeploying its troops.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky on his part described today as a historic day.

“Today is a historic day,” Zelensy wrote on on Telegram, adding that other Ukrainian forces are on the approaches to Kherson.

He goes on to say the people of Kherson were waiting, and never gave up on Ukraine.

And he pledged that for regions yet to be recaptured from Russia, “Ukraine will come to all its people”.
