Parish Priest of St Micheal’s Catholic Church, Umuohiagu, Ngor Okpala, Imo State, South East Nigeria, Rev Fr Patrick Mgbeahurike has warned that celebrating the festive season (holidays) without Jesus Christ amounts to missing the point.

Fr Mgbeahurike while delivering his Christmas Mass homily at Divine Mercy outstation said it is sad to see people celebrating Christmas without making Christ to be at the centre of the celebration.

In the words of the priest…”To say happy holidays without Christ amounts to missing the point. Christ is the reason for the season. We are celebrating the birthday of the messiah at Christmas. Unfortunately in this time and age people put together shows that doesn’t in anyway put Jesus Christ in the picture.

The question to ask is this…who are we celebrating? At Christmas we are celebrating Jesus and not ephemeral things that would pass away. If you are celebrating and the holy family of Nazareth is out of the picture, then you are missing the point. Don’t forget that scripture says what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and fails to make heaven.”

Continuing Fr Mgbeahurike said…”As you celebrate ask yourself if Christ is in picture? As yourself if you are celebrating in line with the Shepherds, the three wisemen from the East and like the family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph…”
