WADSU Championship : National Deaf Coach Seeks Financial Support For Team
After guiding his team to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the opening football match of the 13th edition of the ongoing West African Deaf Football Competition, coach of National Deaf team, Kamuldeen Banjo had appealed to the National Sports Commission to as a matter of urgency extend financial support to the team.
The Deaf team which is chasing their sixth title that will make them the most successful team in the West Coast of Africa is presently representing the country at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja with little or no support from either government or corporate organisations and Banjo believes that the players deserve some respect and financial encouragement to enable them excel.
” I want to thank God for giving us victory over a well balanced and disciplined team like Cote d’Ivoire. My players are here to make history but they’re being discouraged by lack of support from relevant authorities.
“There is need for the NSC to come to our aide and encourage the players both morally and financially because apart from their disability, they’re also Nigerians and highly talented and if well encouraged will win not only Deaf Nations Cup but the World Cup for Nigeria.
Banjo lamented that despite the fact that the team has won five West African titles in the past, previous governments never deemed it fit to host the team even as he appealed to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko and the Director General Hon. Bukoka Olopade to use their good offices and correct the anormaly.
