Wiseman Promotions is out to help boxers achieve their potentials – Obinna Mathew

Chief Executive Officer of Wiseman Boxing Promotions, Obinna Mathew says that his outfit is out to help talented boxers achieve their potentials in the paid ranks, noting that Nigerian boxers require adequate exposure and encouragement to enable them be at par with their counterparts from other parts of the world.

He stated this Friday, June 27, 2024, when his outfit organised a boxing tournament at the Old School Boxing Arena, National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.

According to Obinna who also doubles as President of Wiseman Boxing Academy, having discovered that past Nigerian boxers both at home and in the Diaspora are not doing enough to help young boxers, himself and his matchmaker, Lee Monaghan decided to chart a new course in promoting fights.

” As a boxer, it beats my imagination that our old boxers, both those who are here in the country and the ones in Europe and America are not doing enough to help our young boxers which often times lead to frustration”, began the Assistant Superintendent of Police.

” What we at Wiseman Promotions is out to do is to fill that gap left by our senior colleagues and by so doing, help talented young boxers achieve their full potentials in professional boxing”, he stressed.

He also announced that part of their plans in moving the sports forward is to be organising regular fights which he hope will keep boxers in top shape as well as help them get ranked by the various world boxing bodies.

” Right now, we’ve concluded arrangements to have two tournaments in July, which date has been fixed as 20 and 28 of that month with August 20 and 28 hosting another fight while there’ll also be two fights in December.

” We’re doing all these to avoid our boxers being fight rusty which affects performance. By the time they have regular fights, they’ll not only get adequate exposure but be in top shape physically, psychologically and mentally to face any opponent in their weight categories”, he noted.

Obinna while commending the sanctioning body, Nigerian Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C) for creating an enabling environment for the fights to hold, appealed to corporate organisations to partner with his outfit inorder to get it right vowing that with adequate resources, he will take professional boxing to higher pedestal.

Meanwhile, in some of the fights of the day, Raheem Animashaun defeated Ali Shaibu by a unanimous decision in their National Super Lightweight Challenge contest just as Fatai Ajadi recorded a fourth round technical knockout against Abiodun Joseph in another National Super Lightweight Challenge contest with Sherif Kareem A K.A Lecturer winning his Bantanweight challenge fight against Akeem Muri through a third round technical knockout.

Also, Simon Olayinka defeated Julius Obi by unanimous decision in their National Light heavyweight challenge fight with Franklin Arinze wasting no time in demolishing Idowu Okusote by first round technical knockout in their National Cruiserweight fight.

In the other fights, Samuel Adebayo popularly known as African Mayweather, defeated debutant hard fighting, Sunday Lanre by unanimous decision in their Super welterweight challenge contest while Adeyemi Adekanla A.K.A Spirit recorded another unanimous decision victory against Raji Jamiu in their Super Lightweight fight.

The National Featherweight fight between Soldier boy, Babatunde Oyesiji and Fatai Nurudeen saw the former winning by fourth round technical knockout while Olalade Oyesiji recorded a unanimous decision victory over Akintunde Abolade in their National Super Lightweight fight just as Austine Nnamdi defeated Basil Osigwe by fourth round technical knockout in the last fight of the day.

The fight was sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) with Lee Monaghan serving as the matchmaker.
