2002 OGSS graduands launches Operation Giving Back

It was with nostalgic pomp and pagentry last weekend,as the 2002 graduands of the prestigious Owerri Girls Secondary School in Imo State rolled out the drums to uplift the educational institution that laid the basic foundations of their growth and meaningful contributions to the society for the past 21 years.
According to Mrs. Nkem Oguamah, the leader of the group the visionary maiden project is being executed under the theme: ” Operation Giving Back Project ” as it entails offering of a career master class to the senior students in SS 2 and SS 3 respectively aimed at helping the students to easily identify and choose their career path in life based on interest, prospect and conviction of ability to study the discipline or learn the skill.
Oguamah pointed out that the project was also designed to give scholarship grants to the two overall best students in JSS 3 and SS 3 respectively, as one strategic means of motivating excellence and hard work.
The scholarship she said will cover their school fees for the session as well as their external examination fees, comprising of both NECO and WAEC.
She further noted that the project gives credence to the essence of establishing the alumni group.
Oguamah who’s also the Project Coordinator in her contemporary lecture to the students titled-“The Future is Female” , advised the students to strive towards breaking barriers that might have been placed on them by the society and begin to venture into career paths where they have skill, potentials and interest.
She decried the extent of society discrimination and marginalization against the female gender and enjoined the students not to be deterred.
Speaking as a Special Guest during the event,the Director of Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC),Mrs Ify Onyegbule, applauded the 2002 set of OGSS for their patriotism, benevolence and sacrifices in giving back to their alma mater and urged the beneficiaries of the scholarship grants to maximize the opportunity and sustain commitments to their studies.
On her part,the Principal of the school,who is also an old girl of the school,Lolo Christiana Nlekwa, expressed gratitude to the 2002 old girls and the other old girls of the Catholic church School popularly known as Oji Mgbo for their continuous support and encouragement in ensuring that the school and students thrive in their studies.
Excited Nlekwa also revealed that most of the renovated buildings in the school and other outstanding projects in the school were executed by the institution old girls, even as she expressed her desire that the project would be annually sustained.
Reacting to the scholarship grant given to them,the overall best student in JSS 3, Miss. Janefrances Umejiego and the overall best student in SS3,Miss Blessing Onyenweaku thumbed up the 2002 old girls for their patriotism and philanthropy.
Onyenweaku who expressed happiness for the recognition and appreciation, reassured them of their commitments to remain good ambassadors of the school and prayed for God’s grace and goodness to be upon their lives in all their endeavours.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of the scholarship grants of one hundred and fifty thousand (150,000) Naira to each of the overall best students in the Junior and Senior Secondary Schools and a collective verbal affirmation by the SS 2 and SS 3 students.
