NTF postpones Kebbi Taekwondo Open Championship

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has postponed this month’s 2nd edition of Kebbi Open Championship to 2024.
Secretary General of NTF, Adamu Maikano revealed that the postponement became necessary due to circumstances beyond the control of the board.
Maikano said the Federation regrets any inconveniences the postponement might have caused to the players, coaches and referees.
The statement read, “I am directed to inform you that the 2nd edition of Kebbi Open Championship earlier rescheduled to take place on the 14th to 18th December, 2023 has been postponed to next year.
“The postponement became necessary due to circumstances beyond our control. Therefore, a new date will be duly announced accordingly”.
The 2nd Kebbi Championship was earlier scheduled for 7th to 9th December but got rescheduled to 14th December due to the low turnout of registration.
Meanwhile, a taekwondo coach Fred Ogbonna said athletes from the South East would have loved to participate in the Open but the high cost of transportation might prevent them from being part of the championship when it holds next year
Ogbonna appealed to the Federation to provide transportation subsidy for athletes coming from the South East/South South.
He said, “The Federation under the leadership of Abdullahi Saidu-Baba is trying his best to organise championships across all the zones which is good for the further development of the game.
“Some of us from the Southern part of the country would have loved to register for the Kebbi Open but the cost of transportation is on the high side. We hope the Federation will provide subsidies to cushion the effect on the players”, he concluded.
