2025 World Athletics Championships : Ajayi, Okon qualify for men’s 100m semi-finals

Kanyinsola Ajayi and Israel Okon are through to the semi- finals in the men’s 100m event at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Japan.
Ajayi produced a season and personal best to stop the clock at 9.88s, which is.02s off the national record held by Olusoji Fasugba to finish second in heat 1 behind South Africa’s Gift Leotlela who clocked 9.87s.
Israel Okon ran into the semi- final in 10.04s as heat 6 winner.
In the men’s shot put final, Chukwuebuka Cornnell Enekwechi’s hope of mounting the podium did not materialized as his 21.52m throw left him in the 5th position.
America’s Ryan Crouser took gold with a 22.34 ahead of Uziel Muñoz and Leonardo Fabbri.
Meanwhile, two Nigerian athletes Ese Brume and Prestina Ochonogor’s journey at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan has come to a halt without fanfare or glory to the country.
Both Long jumpers failed in their bid to reach the final of the women’s event at the World Championships with Prestina Ochonogor being the first to. crumble with a poor leap of 6.05m.
That jump is over 62cm off her Season Best of 6.67m recorded at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship UTA Maverick Stadium, Arlington, TX (USA)
On the other hand, Ese Brume, one of the most decorated female jumpers on the continent could not renact the form that gave her silver in Eugene Oregan, gold in Accra and Douala last year. She managed a limp leap of 6.46m.
On the 29th of June 2025, at the MVA HP and Para – Born to Run Invite CVEATC, Chula Vista, CA (USA), the multiple African long jump Queen produced her Season’s Best leap of 6.79 which is the closest to African record jump of 7.17.
