2026 World Cup Qualifier : Nwabali comes under threat in South Africa

As the Super Eagles prepare to face South Africa in a must- win 2026 World Cup qualifiers Tuesday in Bloemfontein, Nigerian first choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has come under serious threat from Bafana Bafana fans who have priomised to harm him should he deny them of the chance of qualifying for the Mumdial.
South Africa are currently on top of Group C with 16 points against Nigeria’s 10 points that confined them to third place behind Benin Republic.
A win for Bafana Bafana will ensure their qualification while a loss to the Super Eagles will reduce their lead to three points and put their qualification under threat considering that the World football governing body FIFA might later deduct three points from them for fielding an ineligible player in their game against Lesotho.
Some of the Nigerian delegation who spoke to our correspondent on phone said that the South African fans are openly threatening Nwabali who keeps for Chippa United in that country’s top tier League, that they will harm him should he deny them the opportunity of qualifying for the world cup
” The threat by the South Africans is serious. They have been threatening him through text messages and openly that he should chose between his life and helping Nigeria beat South Africa in tomorrow’s encounter.
” The South African fans are saying that he cannot be playing his trade in their country and help Nigeria deny them of world cup qualification and that if he does that, he should be ready to face the consequences which will include physical harm or even death”, said our source.
Further investigation by newstap.com.ng revealed that the Super Eagles’ first choice goalkeeper is seriously concerned about his safety considering the high level of violence and assassinations in South Africa
