The Federal Government of Nigeria under the stewardship of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu desire’s to see the male national football team, the Super Eagles reach the 2026 World Cup finals.
To this end, the Federal Government through the National Sports Commission (NSC), has set in motion plans and programs that will help actualize this big goal of the President and the over 210 million Nigerians.
One of such plans is the setting up of a STRATEGY GROUP for the Super Eagles and the Football Federation whose mandate is to compliment the NFF and to provide the necessary support with the backing of the Presidency.
It was realiably gathered that the Presidency initially wanted something in the mode of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), of 2010, which was a Task Force, however, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, toned it down to a STRATEGY GROUP.
The Strategy Group’s role goes beyond just the Super Eagles games, they are to take special interest in the matches involving South Africa as well as other teams in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
It was further gathered that an advance party of the Strategy Group will be leaving for South Africa next week to mobilize Nigerians in the former apartheid enclave to give the Super Eagles the much needed support before, during and after the all important confrontation against Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
It’s noteworthy to mention that the Super Eagles World Cup Strategic Group helped make Kigali, the Rwandan capital, home for the team by mobilizing support for the three time African champions.
The Sports Commission strongly believes that the Strategy Group and the NFF will replicate the Kigali experience in Blomfontein come the 9th of September.
To this end, the leadership of the National Sports Commission is appealing to Nigerians home and abroad to line up behind the country’s symbol of football success – the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles journey to the 2026 World Cup finals that is on the precipice of doom, with four must-win games against Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Most football stakeholders who spoke to our correspondent say no amount of effort, resources and money spent on the World Cup ticket is too much for the country and they pleaded with the NSC, the Strategy Group to support the Super Eagles and the NFF fully.
Meanwhile, the camp of the Super Eagles for the decide your destiny 2026 World Cup Qualifiers opens on the first of September in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, South-South, Nigeria.
Nigeria is currently occupying the fourth spot in Group C of the Africa 2026 World Cup Qualifiers behind South Africa, Rwanda and Benin Republic.
On the general Africa World Cup Qualifiers, Nigeria is at number 30 and only the top 9 countries get automatic tickets to the 2026 World Cup finals to be co-hosted by America, Canada and Mexico.
The four best after this round of qualifiers will be involved in a playoff that may offer Africa more slots. The four best group runners-up will be drawn into play-offs to determine the CAF representative at the inter-confederation play-offs.
Rwanda will be Nigeria’s guest on Match Day 7 on the 6th of September while the Super Eagles will travel to South Africa three days later for that all important confrontation against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Free State also known as Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
The last time Nigeria met with the Amavubis of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on the 21st of March which was Match Day 5, the Eagles triumphed 2-0.
Both first half strikes came from Galatasaray’s new boy, Victor Osimhen in the 11th and 45th minute of the game watched by a capacity crowd that includes Rwanda’s number one citizen, His Excellency Paul Kagame.
