27 goals recorded in Matchday one as Spires 5-Aside tournament begins in Lagos

Hostilities Kicked -off on Wednesday in the highly anticipated Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament Last-16 fixtures. The event held at “the stable” football pitch in surulere attracted hundreds of football fans on Matchday-one.

In an electrified atmosphere Zion FC and 2 Odds Football club kick started the days proceedings with an end-to-end show of grit and techniques, but it was 2 Odds who came out tops with a 4-2 victory in the pulsating encounter.
On the scoresheet were Precious, Seyi, Lawson, and Agbaje, while Peter got a brace to crown a splendid afternoon for 2 Odds FC.
In the second match, Daniel and Obiorah got two goals apiece for either sides as Yahweh FC secured a hard fought 4-3 triumph over Peckins football club. In other results, Toprocks FC defeated ASD Academy 5-3, while Owibesebe football club fell by 2 goals to 4 against VVD FC.

The Chief Executive Officer of Spires Media Dr. Femi Bankole,
said that the tournament is aimed, amongst others, to unearth a lot of football talents on the streets of Lagos not captured by some of the existing football academies.

He stressed further that the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament, marks a significant milestone in the promoters commitment to redefining Nigerian street soccer and harnessing the immense talents found within the Lagos communities.

” The Spires 5-Aside is not just another streets soccer tournament where players covered in honour of a notably individual or corperate organization. This time it’s solely about creating a lasting impact in the grassroots football ecosystem that will significantly influence the lives and career of the key actors which are the footballers”

” From the divisional stages were we had over 40 teams down to the last 16, we have met every of our obligations in terms of remuneration and other logistics, hence the high level of organization we are witnessing today”

Bankole further reveal that the winner of this season’s tournament will pocket the sum of 5 million naira in prize money, the runners up will receive 3 million, while the third placed team will get 1 million naira.
Dr. Femi also stated that there will be special prizes for the MVP, the best goalkeeper, as well as the coach and team of the tournament.

Action continues today for Matchday-Two fixtures at “the stable” sports complex surulere.
