2nd Ajegunle City Youth Marathon Begins With VIP Race

Activities leading to the second edition of the annual Ajegunle City Youth Marathon slated for Saturday, December, 13, 2025, began today with a VIP/ Executive race.

The 2.5km race which was flagged off by Oba Moroof Amodu Tijani Amore 111, the Olu of Iwa and Apapa kingdom commenced from Ifelodun Local Council Development Area and terminated at the headquarters of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Performing the flag off, Oba Moroof Tijani commended the organisers for coming up with the idea of a marathon aimed at keeping youths out of crime and drugs, noting that he’s happy that the event is holding in his kingdom for the second consecutive year.

According to him as a retired Premier League referee, match assessor and one time Secretary General of Nigeria Referees Association, he understands the importance of sports and and will always encourage the youths to take to sports and shun social vices such as crime and involvement in the use of hard drugs.

” You know that Ajegunle is the bedrock of sports not only in Lagos State but the entire Nigeria and as the royal father of this community and a former sports person myself, I have to be around to encourage the youths to take part in sports and shun all types of crime and drugs abuse.

Hon. Olamilekan Olu Akindipe commended the organisers for coming up with the initiative which he believes will in the nearest future produce athletes that will rule the world in long distance races.

He pledged that the Council under his watch will continue to support the marathon because of it’s benefits to the youths.

In his remarks, the immediate past Vice Chairman of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area, Lucky Uduikhue, said he’s particularly happy that this year’s edition is being used to campaign against drug abuse which he said is causing serious menance all over the world.

Also speaking, the convener of the marathon, Isaac Moses as well as the Chairman of the Local Organizing committee, Prince Ogaga Owowo, noted that this years edition, which is organized to enhance health promotion and fitness as well as preach against drug abuse, will be more massive than the first edition just as they assured that all necessary security arrangement has been put in place for a successful event.

” This year’s edition will be more massive than last year because already we have more than 500 athletes from all over the country registered for the marathon.

“Right now all security arrangement has been put in place with the Police, Military, LASTMA and Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch. The route to the marathon has also been
marked and we can assure you that we’ re ready to go”, they stressed.

The second edition of the 10 km Ajegunle City Youth Marathon tagged ‘ Run to the path of light
Say no to drugs’, will take place on Saturday, December, 13, 2025.

The race will be flagged off at Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle while the finish point will be at the Nigerian Army Signals Barracks, Mile 2.
Winners are expected to go home with cash prizes
