2nd Niger Delta Games: Ozama, Ejiro win 100 meters golds

Delta State Saturday once again maintained it’s rising profile in athletics dominance as the state won both the men and women 100 meters races at the ongoing Niger Delta Games holding in Benin City, the Edo State Capital

In the men’s final, Chibueze Ozama of Delta State outclassed all his opponents to win the gold medal in a time of 10: 42 secs, while Gift Bright of Akwa Ibom State came second in a time of 10: 57 secs with Saturday Godswill taking the bronze in a time of 10:59

In the women category, Ejiro Peter also of Delta State proved why she is the best women’s runner in the competition.

Running in a very competitive women’s 100 meters final, Ejiro dusted all to finish in a time of 11:58 secs to win gold for Delta State.

She was closely followed by Tejiri Ugoh Praise, who arrived the finishing line at 11:76 secs to win silver for host Edo State, while the bronze medal went to Victory Imoisemeh Azobudi also of Edo State.

Meanwhile, Team Imo secured its first medal at the ongoing Niger Delta Games, with Blessing Ukaoha winning silver in the women’s shot put event. Ukaoha delivered a powerful and composed performance in the field, finishing second to clinch Team Imo’s opening podium finish of the competition.

The achievement has lifted the mood in the Imo camp, as officials and teammates lauded her determination and technical display.

Her silver medal has now sets the tone for the state’s campaign, with hopes high for more podium finishes in the days ahead.

However the gold medal went to Delta State’s Emerald Ugwuogo, who threw a distance 11:49 metres, while Ukaoha distance throw was 11:41 metres. Abia State’s Uchechi Agu won the bronze throwing 10:07 metres.

Reacting to her silver medal performance, a disappointed Ukaoha noted that her target was to win the gold.

“My target was to win the gold medal but it went to the Delta girl. I’m disappointed missing my target but there is another day”, she stressed
