Monarch’s King of the ring fight ends in Lagos, as Khan wins WBO Africa Superflyweight title

The much talked about Monarch Events and Promotion King of the ring 2 boxing challenge came to a successful end Tuesday night, December, 20, 2022.
Staged at the prestigious Eko Club, Bode Thomas, Lagos, all the ten fights lived up to expectation with boxing fans commending the promoter for staging a world class event.
In the main fight of the night England based Pakistani fighter, Tasif Khan scored a unanimous points decision over Gabriel Lareya of Ghana after a gruesome 12 rounds encounter to win the vacant WBO Africa Superflyweight title.
Chief Executive Officer of Monarch Events and Promotions/ Promoter of the fights Prince Stanley Williams told newstap.com that this is the beginning of new things to happen to professional boxing in the country just as he promised that his company will continue to promote more fights in order to give hope to talented boxers as well as offer them opportunity to be ranked by the various world boxing bodies.
” I’m happy that the event was a huge success and we’ll continue to build on the successes recorded to move professional boxing forward in this part of the world.
“It’s equally important I commend the fighters and all the sanctioning bodies for their cooperation which made us achieve what we’ve achieved and I want to assure you that at Monarch, producing world champions will always remain our priority”, he stressed.
In his remarks President of WBO Africa, Samir Captan while commending Prince Williams for what he has done in moving boxing forward described WBO titles as get way to having a crack at the world title.
Also speaking former Director General of National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu expressed happiness with what Monarch is doing to rewrite the history of professional boxing in the country.
Meanwhile in the other fights of the night, Ani Michael recorded a unanimous point decision victory over fellow debutant, Ugonna Emmanuel in their national middleweight contest with the heavyweight fight between Onuoha Chimezie and Tunde Azeez ending in a draw just as Yisa Adisa Adeniji recorded another unanimous decision victory over Ezekiel Annan of Ghana in their international Super bantamweight contest.
also, Oluwasegun ‘Bouncing’ Mustapha beat Hameed ‘Eshe’ Ganiyu by a unanimous decision in their national welterweight contest with Elisha Obizulike winning his national lightweight fight against Ibrahim Oloyede by unanimous decision while the only female bout in the bantamweight category was won by Adijat Gbadamosi who beat Taiye Kodjo by a unanimous decision.
The international Super lightweight contest between Termizhan Baimolda of Kazakhstan and Waliu Arogundade of Nigeria ended in a draw with Victor Beneth of Nigeria recording a unanimous points decision over Joseph Tetteh of Ghana in their international light heavyweight contest just as Ezra Areyenka of Nigeria recorded a first round TKO ol]ver Frank Dodzi of Ghana in their international Super middleweight fight.
The event was witnessed by former WBF cruiserweight champion Bash Ali who came as a ring side guest while many artistes such as GOYA, C-Prince, B-Tone, CDQ and MENOR performed to entertain the fans
A minute silence was also observed for late Miracle Amaeze who fights on the stable of Monarch before his unfortunate death.
