Organizers Rename, Rebrand Ajegunle Peace Cup

The Ajegunle Peace Cup Organizing Committee have announced that the competition has secured a title sponsor.

The well- followed tournament will be known as the ‘Yemi Idowu-Ajegunle Peace Cup’, in recognition of the sponsor’s commitment to youth development and community unity through sport in Ajegunle.

Speaking on the tournament, Chairman of the LOC, McAnthony Anaelechukwu, who doubles as the Director-General of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Sports Council, said; “since inception, the Peace Cup has provided a platform for young players to showcase talent, foster unity across streets and communities, and promote peace through football.

With this new partnership, we are set to raise the standard for the 7th edition and beyond.”

He disclosed that the kick off date for the tournament is slated for Wednesday, 1st October 2026, while registration opens Tuesday, 1st July, 2026 and closes, Saturday, 1st August 2026. 

Participation in the 32 team tournament would be based on the first teams to complete registration. 

Meanwhile, the organisers in their unending efforts to make the tournament better has laid out some strict criteria. And it includes;  All teams must possess a valid CAC registration that is a minimum of two (2) years old. This is to ensure accountability and organizational stability; Teams must be affiliated to a recognized Divisional Football Association and/or the Lagos State Football Association; Teams will be held fully responsible for the conduct of their players, officials, and supporters. Acts of violence, hooliganism, or disruption will attract sanctions, including disqualification and future bans.

He added, “the Yemi Idowu-Ajegunle Peace Cup remains committed to using football as a tool for peace, talent discovery, and community pride.

We call on all eligible teams in Ajegunle and surrounding areas to prepare for a competitive and well-structured tournament.”
