International Fencing Federation announces gender-equal prize money of over USD 1 million for FIE Senior Fencing World Championships
The International Fencing Federation (FIE) is pleased to announce that the prize money for athletes who medal at the upcoming FIE Senior Fencing World Championships 2026 in Hong Kong, China will exceed USD 1 million.
In accordance with the FIE’s 2026 Support Plan, a total of USD 1.02 million in prize money will be awarded to gold, silver and bronze medallists in all individual and team events across all weapon categories, with equal prizes for men’s and women’s events.
The FIE first directly awarded medallists with prize money at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia. This was followed earlier this year with equipment prizes at the Junior/Cadets World Championships awarded to gold, silver and bronze medallists in all individual and team events across all weapon categories, with equal prizes for men’s and women’s events.
A total of USD 480,000 will be awarded to individual medallists in both genders in Hong Kong, with a further USD 540,000 earmarked for team medallists.
The full breakdown is as follows:
Individual events (USD 480,000 in total)
1st place: USD 40,000 (1 per weapon; 6 prizes in total)
2nd place: USD 20,000 (1 per weapon; 6 prizes in total)
3rd place: USD 10,000 (2 per weapon; 12 prizes in total)
Team events (4 athletes per team) (USD 540,000 in total)
1st place: USD 50,000 (1 per weapon; 6 prizes in total; USD 12,500 per athlete)
2nd place: USD 25,000 (1 per weapon; 6 prizes in total; USD 6,250 per athlete)
3rd place: USD 15,000 (1 per weapon; 6 prizes in total; USD 3,750 per athlete)
FIE President-Interim Abdelmoneim ElHusseiny commented: “The FIE’s decision is part of the athlete-centric approach taken by our Federation. Athletes are our top priority and, therefore, are at the core of our 2025-28 Strategic Plan.”

About the FIE Senior Fencing World Championships
The 85th edition of the FIE Senior Fencing World Championships is scheduled to take place in Hong Kong, China from 22 to 30 July.
As the pinnacle event of the fencing season, the World Championships will feature over 1,000 of the best fencers from around the world competing in 12 individual and team events across epee, foil and sabre. All the action will unfold at the AsiaWorld-Expo, widely recognized as of one of the world’s premier venues for exhibitions and entertainment.
