Sam Okwaraji U-16 Secondary Schools Tourney : Govt College Emerge Winners of Owerri Zone

The Southern States preliminaries of the maiden Sam Okwaraji U-16 Secondary Schools Football Championship which kicked off Wednesday has continued to produce interesting results with Government Secondary School, Owerri emerging champions of the Owerri Zone.
In an entertaining match played yesterday, the school proved tok difficult for Owerri City Secondary School to handle as they handed them a 2-0 defeat to be crowned champions of the zone.

Some of the players of the winning school and their teachers who spoke on the match, expressed happiness that they emerged victorious, expressing confidence that they’ll o emerge the state champion at the end of hostilities.

Speaking on the match, the Secretary Organizing Committee of the championship Chidozie Achonwa expressed happiness that the preliminaries are moving on smoothly; saying that he’s satisfied with the football artistry displayed by the two schools.
” As you can see, the preliminaries kicked off on a good note and the students are happy being part of this national championship aimed at developing football at the grassroots.

” Both schools showed a good mastery of the game but at the end the better side won and we hope to see more of such actions in the other zones”, he stated

Meanwhile, The finals to determine Imo State champion will hold on Sunday, the 5th of July, 2026.
