ACC Secures ₦38 Million CAS Award for Coach Tope Bulus Against Katsina United

African Coaches Connect (ACC) has secured a landmark victory for Nigerian football coach Tope Bulus after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) awarded him ₦38 million in compensation following his wrongful termination by Katsina United.

The ruling requires Katsina United to pay the full amount before the commencement of the new football season, marking the end of a legal dispute that began after Bulus was dismissed by the club in 2023.

According to sources familiar with the case, Bulus initially sought redress through the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Judicial Committee.

However, despite prolonged efforts, the club failed to comply with the committee’s directives, prompting the matter to be escalated to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The CAS decision represents another significant milestone for African Coaches Connect, an organization that has increasingly championed the rights of football coaches across the continent.

The victory is the second successful arbitration award ACC has secured for football coaches in Nigeria and its ninth across Africa.

The latest ruling is expected to reinforce the importance of contractual obligations in African football and serve as a reminder to clubs of the legal consequences of wrongful termination and non-compliance with established dispute resolution mechanisms.

Efforts to obtain comments from ACC President, Eldred Sunju Abbey, were unsuccessful. Sources close to the organization disclosed that he is currently attending the ongoing FIFA World Cup, making him unavailable for immediate reaction.

The CAS award is expected to be closely watched by stakeholders in Nigerian football, as it could set another important precedent in the enforcement of coaches’ contractual rights and the implementation of international arbitration decisions.
