18 Days to Go: Team Nigeria Begins Final Countdown at World-Class Aberdeen Sports Village

With just 18 days to the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, ‘Team Nigeria’ has entered the final phase of preparations, settling into the world-class Aberdeen Sports Village, where the contingent will train for the next three weeks before heading to the Games Village in Glasgow.

Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, stated that “with 18 days to the Games, our focus in this final preparation phase is ensuring every athlete has access to the best possible training environment.”

“Aberdeen Sports Village offers facilities that meet the highest international standards, and we are confident our athletes will make the most of this final preparation period. We remain optimistic about Team Nigeria’s prospects in Glasgow and wish every athlete an injury-free and successful campaign.”

Recognized as Scotland’s premier sports, fitness and lifestyle venue, Aberdeen Sports Village offers elite athletes access to top-tier training facilities, including an internationally accredited athletics track, a United Kingdom Athletics-accredited indoor athletics centre, an Olympic-standard Aquatics Centre, a high-performance gymnasium, recovery facilities and multi-sport indoor halls.

The venue has hosted major international competitions and has become a preferred high-performance training base for elite athletes from around the world.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) stated that the state-of-the-art facility provides Team Nigeria with the ideal environment to fine-tune preparations and acclimatize ahead of the Games.

Team Nigeria’s camp continues to grow steadily. As of the close of activities on Saturday, 18 additional athletes had arrived in Aberdeen, bringing the total number of athletes in camp to 74, with a few more athletes and officials expected to join the delegation in the coming days.
