De Lads out to raise the bar in Nigerian boxing, says Alabi

Chief Executive Officer of De Lads Boxing Promotions, Alhaji Waheed Wasiu Alabi said that his boxing promotion outfit is out to change the narratives of Nigerian boxing and see to improved welfare package for boxers explaining that his decision to be organising amateur boxing side by side with professional bouts is to give boxers equal opportunity to excel
De Lads promotions Sunday, December, 24 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Surulere Lagos organised series 6 of it’s boxing promotion tagged ‘Battle of the Ages’ and Alhaji Alabi believes the performances put up by the boxers is an indication that he’s getting it right and will soon produce world champions for the country
” When we first started, we were focusing only on amateur boxing but at a stage, we decided to go into promotion of professional fights and this has really helped in giving both amateur fighters and those in the paid ranks the opportunity to excel.
” As you can see, our sixth promotion featured some of the best amateur and professional boxers in the country and even boxers from neighbouring West African countries and we’ll continue to encourage them to excel and become world champions.
Alabi who was full of praises to the leadership of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) for their support positing that his company will continue to work closely with the sanctioning body in order to move Nigerian professional boxing to a higher pedestal.
” I must commend the NBB of C for their efforts at improving professional boxing in the country. The just concluded seminar for coaches in which they invited an international referee/ judge Daniel Van De Wiele from Belgium is commendable and we’ll continue to support them to move the game forward.
He also noted that he’s worried with the poor purse paid to boxers; saying that he’s looking forward to an improved welfare package for boxers.
Alhaji Alabi was full of praises to Bet9ja for their financial support which made the promotion a success and Startimes for coming on board, hoping that very soon, some of the boxers will be opportune to fight in Europe and America where they can make more money just as he promised that his quarterly boxing promotion will come up again in March next year.
Meanwhile in some of the fights, Segun Adeyemi recorded a split decision against Amosu Kaki Williams in their Light welterweight challenge contest while Lekan Muibi recorded a 7th round Technical knockout over Rasheed Abolaji in their Light heavyweight fight
In the female lightweight fight, knockout specialist, Cynthia Ogunsemilore increased her record to seven wins after stopping debutant Akindele Opeyemi in the third round just as Tunde Olojede of Nigeria recorded a majority decision victory over his opponent from Benin Republic, Klaklevin Martin in their Super Bantamweight international challenge contest with the light heavyweigh between Olanrewaju “Succes” Segun and Idowu “ID Buster” Rasheed ended in a draw.
