Pray for Team Nigeria’s Success at Commonwealth Games – Oweifie Urges Nigerians

By Ohis Asein

The Special Assistant (Special Duties) to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mr. Ebidowei Oweifie, has called on Nigerians to keep Team Nigeria in their prayers as the country’s contingent prepares to conclude its training camp in Aberdeen before moving to Glasgow, Scotland, for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Speaking to FAKS MEDIA ahead of the team’s departure, the soft-spoken sports administrator expressed confidence in the athletes’ readiness, noting that the majority of Team Nigeria’s athletes are in excellent shape and prepared to compete at the highest level.

According to Oweifie, while thorough preparation is essential in sports, divine favour also plays a significant role in achieving success.

“In sports, after all the preparations have been made, what you need is God. I urge Nigerians to pray for our athletes to have a hitch-free championship,” he said.

He commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission for providing the athletes with everything necessary to ensure they are in the right frame of mind for the competition.

“The National Sports Commission has done everything necessary to put the athletes in competition mood. It is now left for the athletes to give their very best and put smiles on the faces of millions of Nigerians who will be watching and supporting them from back home,” Oweifie added.

Team Nigeria is expected to depart Aberdeen for Glasgow in the coming days as the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games enters its final stage.
