World U-20 Championships: Tonobok Okowa Charges Team Nigeria Athletes to Make the Nation Proud

The Senior Vice President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), President of CAA Region 2, and President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has charged Nigeria’s athletes competing at the World Athletics U-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, to be worthy ambassadors of the country and give their best in pursuit of glory.
Chief Okowa, who recently returned to Nigeria after leading the nation’s athletics contingent at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, said although he would not be physically present in Eugene, his thoughts and full support are with the young athletes.
In his message to the team, the AFN President urged the athletes to compete with discipline, determination, and the true spirit of sportsmanship, reminding them that they are representing over 200 million Nigerians on the global stage.
“I may not be with you in Eugene, but my heart is with every member of Team Nigeria. Go out there, compete with confidence, remain focused, be good ambassadors of our great nation, and make Nigeria proud at the end of the championships,” Okowa said.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the athletes to excel, noting that they have prepared well for the competition and possess the talent to challenge for honours against the world’s best junior athletes.
Chief Okowa also wished the athletes and officials a successful championship, expressing hope that Team Nigeria would return home with outstanding performances and medals that would further enhance the country’s reputation in global athletics.
