10 Days to Go! Over 3,000 Athletes Jostle for Medals at Enugu City International Marathon
.Expo, World Press Conference, and Final Activations Set as Race Day Nears
Excitement is at fever pitch in the Coal City with just 10 days to go, as over 30,000 athletes prepare to line up for the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Organized by Nilayo Sports Management with full backing from the Enugu State Government, the race has drawn massive interest from elite runners, grassroots athletes, and fun participants across Nigeria, Africa, and the diaspora, all jostling for medals, prize money, and bragging rights.
Final arrangements for the ‘Marathon Expo’ are also progressing rapidly. The Expo will serve as the official kit pickup point for all registered runners and will feature brand activations by various sponsors.
Athletes and the public are expected to experience a week-long buildup of sports, music, wellness, and business showcases ahead of race day.
To round off the pre-race activities, the Enugu City International Marathon World Press Conference is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2026.
The conference will bring together organizers, government officials, elite athletes, and sponsors to unveil final race details, security arrangements, and the full prize structure.
Race Day Schedule:
42km Elite Marathon*: Flag-off *6:30AM from ShopRite, Abakaliki Road
10km Fun Run: Starts 8:30AM from Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road, finishing at *Opara Square by 12:30PM
Security, medical, hydration, and traffic management plans have all been finalized to ensure a safe and world-class experience for athletes and spectators.
