The countdown is on. Just 7 days remain until the Prestigious 2nd Enugu City International Marathon, and excitement is building across the Coal City as runners, fans, and communities prepare for one of Nigeria’s biggest road races.
From the streets of Independence Layout to the finish line at Michael Okpara Square, the city is set to come alive on Saturday, August 29, 2026 with thousands of athletes expected to compete in the 42km elite race and 10km fun run.
This year’s edition promises more than just a race. It’s a celebration of endurance, culture, unity, and the rising spirit of sports in Enugu State.
Ahead of race day, activities will kick off with the 5-day Marathon Expo from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28 at Michael Okpara Square.
The Expo will serve as the official kit collection center for all registered participants and a hub for sponsors, fitness brands, health organizations, and fans to connect with the marathon movement. The Expo will run daily from 9:00AM to 6:00PM and is free to the public.
Supported by the Enugu State Government and delivered by Nilayo Sports Management, the marathon continues to position Enugu as a premier destination for sports tourism in West Africa.
“In 7 days, Enugu will show the world what resilience looks like.
This marathon is not just about running 42km. It’s about running for our health, running for our community, and running to put Enugu on the global sports map. We are ready to welcome the world.” Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, CEO, Nilayo Sports Management.
All roads will lead to the Enugu City International Marathon World Press Conference on Thursday, August 28, 2026.
This is where organizers will unveil the final race details, including security plans, logistics, and the full prize structure for both the 42km and 10km categories.
