Nigeria Women’s Handball Team To Face Ghana, Burkina Faso At IHF Nations Trophy


Nigeria’s Senior Women’s Handball team will begin their campaign at the inaugural IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when they take on Ghana in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Coach Michael Taangahar’s side will face Ghana in their opening Group Stage game at 6:00pm GMT, before playing hosts Burkina Faso in their second game on Friday, September 4, also at 6:00pm GMT.
The IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III is scheduled to hold from September 2 to 6, 2026, in Ouagadougou, with Nigeria aiming to put up a strong performance against the two West African sides.
The team had been in camp for several weeks at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where Coach Taangahar has been putting the players through their paces ahead of the competition.
They then travelled to Cotonou, Benin Republic where they played a preparatory friendly match against a selected team from top Benin Republic Handball clubs Aspac and Flowers Handball Clubs ahead of the competition. They won 34-31.
Coach Taangahar and his players have been preparing for the competition and will be looking to start their campaign on a winning note as they battle for honours in the championship.
