Lagos NUJ Media Games 2026: Obasa reassures support as Agege LGA hosts journalists
The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, has reassured the Council’s full support for the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council Media Games.
Obasa made the commitment when the Media Games Organizing Committee paid an inspection visit to Agege Stadium, venue of the week-long sporting fiesta scheduled for October 5th to 9th, 2026.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the facilities and ensuring that adequate arrangements are in place for the successful hosting of the games, which are expected to attract journalists from various media organisations across Lagos.
Welcoming the committee to Agege, Hon.Obasa expressed delight at the decision to host the competition in the area, assuring of the council’s cooperation and support.
“We have already told you that you are very much welcome. We are happy to have you here at Agege Local Government, and we are proud that you have chosen to make use of our facilities.
“We will make the necessary contributions to ensure that the games are a success. As the local government chairman, you are very much welcome, and we will do everything necessary to make sure you enjoy your time here at Agege,” Obasa said.
He further urged members of the organizing committee to inspect the facilities at the stadium, assuring them that the council was ready to work with the union to ensure a hitch-free games.
The 2026 Lagos NUJ Media Games are designed to provide media practitioners with an opportunity to take a break from the pressures of the newsroom, promote physical fitness and deepen camaraderie among journalists.
The event is also expected to foster interaction among practitioners from different media organisations while promoting healthy competition and teamwork.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Lagos Council of NUJ, Adeleye Ajayi, represented by the Assistant Secretary, Olayide Awosanya, alongside the committee chairman, Ayo Ojedokun, and his members commended Obasa for the warm reception and his commitment to supporting the games.
Awosanya said the committee’s visit was to assess the available facilities and ensure that preparations for the games remained on course.
“We are here to inspect the facilities that we are going to use for the games and also to ensure that our plans are met as soon as possible.
“That is basically why we decided to come, so that we can meet with the local government and inspect the facilities on ground,” he said.
