The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ) has announced that the 2026 edition of it’s Media Games will hold from Monday October 5- Friday October, 9, 2026.
Disclosing this Thursday during a media briefing and unveiling of the Games Logo, Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee of the Games, Comrade Ayo Ojedokun said the games will be held at the Agege Mini Stadium and the council’s secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to him while football and 100 meters race will take place at Agege Mini Stadium, indoor games will hold at the council’s secretariat.
He listed sports that will be showcased to include ; five- aside – football, 100 meters, table tennis, ayo olopon, draught, chess and ludo
Ojedokun also announced that a novelty match between Nigeria Institute of Public Relations ( NIPR) and NUJ veterans will herald the opening ceremony of the Games.
The MOC chairman, while assuring that the Games will be an exciting week of sporting activities, appealed to corporate organisations who’re yet to identify with the games to do so, assuring them of wider publicity, appropriate visibility and recognition throughout the Games.
“I want to say that this games is designed to promote friendship, teamwork, healthy living and stronger bonds among journalists across Lagos State.
” It’s equally important that I appreciate all our sponsors and partners for believing in the initiative and supporting the NUJ Lagos Council.
” We also encourage more corporate organizations, government agencies, media organizations and well meaning individuals to come on boards. There’re still opportunities to partner with us and we assure every sponsor and partner of appropriate visibility and recognition throughout the Games”, he stressed.
In his remarks, Chairman of Lagos State NUJ, Adeleye Ajayi expressed happiness that the games will be used to bring together journalists from different chapels and media organizations across Lagos State, just as he promised an exciting week of sporting activities, fellowship and healthy competitions.
He described the game’s logo as representing
the spirit of unity, professionalism, teamwork and excellence that the Games seek to promote.
Performing the logo unveiling technical chairman of the Games, Joe Apu explained that it is all encompassing as it contains NUJ Logo and a trophy that represents everything about the Games.
The technical chairman further explained that the men and women football matches will be a 5-aside competition with the best two teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the football draws shows that Group A consists of Lagos Information, Voice of Nigeria, Lagos Traffic Radio, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria ( FRCN) and The Nation.
Group B comprises of Vanguard Newspaper, Federal Maritime Media Chapel, Lagos Television and Guardian Newspapers.
In the women draws; Lagos Television, Lagos Traffic Radio, Federal Maritime Media and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) are in Group A while Lagos Information, Vanguard Newspapers, Guardian Newspapers and Voice of Nigeria will fight for honours in Group B
Also at the event, a minute silence was observed for the former Secretary of the Council, Mr. Alfred Odifa, who passed on Thursday morning.
