WAL-BOG Motors Soccer Tourney: Ogunkeyede Promises Bigger, More Exciting Fifth Edition
Five first-round fixtures have been confirmed for the 5th edition of the Wal-Bog Motor Football Competition, with organisers promising an expanded sporting experience beyond football.
The much-anticipated draw has set up five intriguing encounters as participating teams begin their quest for honours in a fixtures pairing Golden Crown FC against FRIN FC, Noble Kazzy FC facing Zartech FC, Zenith Sabo FC vs Eagle Babes FC, Betano FC confronting Lion Star FC, and New System FC locking horns with Shilo FC.
Attention will now turn to preparations for the opening matches, with each team seeking a strong start.
Now in its fifth edition, the competition reflects the continuity grassroots sporting events can provide for players and communities.
Such tournaments offer local players competitive experience, networking opportunities and exposure to coaches and talent scouts.
That role aligns with Nigeria’s current sports-development priorities. The Federal Ministry of Sports Development’s 2024–2027 strategic plan identifies increased participation at all levels and grassroots competitions as key objectives.
The National Sports Commission has likewise stressed grassroots talent identification, development and the revival of school-sports pathways.
The financier of the competition, Olawale Ogunkeyede, who doubles as the CEO of WAL-BOG Motors has promised a bigger and more exciting programme this year.
He said the event is expected to expand beyond football to include boxing and table tennis, giving the competition a broader sporting identity and creating opportunities for athletes with different talents.
The multi-sport approach also reflects the wider push to diversify grassroots opportunities in Nigeria. Initiatives supported by government and sports institutions increasingly aim to bring training and competition closer to communities while helping young people discover and develop their abilities.
If Ogunkeyede’s plans materialise, the Wal-Bog Motor Competition could evolve from a football tournament into a wider community sporting festival combining football, boxing, table tennis and other activities in an expanded fifth edition.
