Benin Republic to host July edition of Yucateco Pan-African Boxing Championship
Organizers of the first ever Pan-African Amateur Boxing Championship Yucateco Boxing Promotions have announced Benin Republic as the host for the July edition of the bouts. The Championship which debuted in Togo last month have continued to attract pugilists from across the continent after a successful outing in Lomé, the Togolese Capital.
CEO Yucateco boxing promotions Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, said the outfit is working closely with the Boxing Federation of Benin Republic to ensure they stage a splendid event in Cotonou this month.
” All hands are on deck as we speak, the technical committee had a virtual meeting yesterday with executives of Benin Republic Boxing Federation and we arrived at a few resolves in the area of logistics and technicalities”
” The maiden bouts in Togo last month was an eye opener for countries on the continent, they thought we were joking when we set out to do this, but almost ten countries have indicated their interest to be part of the championship since the event in Lomé”
Imadu further reveal that the final round of bouts for the first quarter of the championship calendar will be hosted in Lagos in August 2024 after this month’s event in Benin.
” Lagos will be hosting the finale of this quarter, we are bringing the glitz and glamour home so our champions from the first phase of the championship can be properly decorated before the rest of the world, it will be a live changing experience for these boxers and we hope to archive every moment with the Nigerian Sports Media”
The July edition of the Yucateco Pan-African Boxing Championship will hold between Friday 26th to Sunday 28th at the National Sports Gymnasium in Cotonou.
