Olopade splashes ₦6M on Athletic Heat 10th anniversary meet

The 10th anniversary edition of the Athletic Heat Meet has received a major financial boost following a ₦6 million support pledge from the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade.

The commitment, ahead of Saturday’s November 7 competition at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos, is aimed at rewarding athletes and supporting the successful staging of the anniversary event.

Under the arrangement, Olopade has earmarked ₦4 million for winners in the throwing events, with ₦500,000 allocated to the winner of each of the eight events. He has also committed an additional ₦2 million towards the competition’s logistics.

The intervention adds to the growing support for the landmark edition, which is bringing together established Nigerian athletes, emerging talents and other stakeholders in a celebration of athletics and the competition’s decade-long contribution to the sport.

Athletic Heat CEO, Ese Oguma, welcomed the gesture, expressing gratitude to Olopade for his support and continued commitment to sports development in Nigeria.

Oguma noted that backing from sports administrators and other stakeholders is crucial to improving competition standards, providing financial incentives for athletes and creating more opportunities for young talents to demonstrate their potential.

As it marks its 10th anniversary, Athletic Heat is reaffirming its commitment to building a platform where athletes can test their abilities, earn recognition and compete for meaningful rewards.
