Aiyegbeni boxing club visit Irrua Royal Father ahead of Yucateco boxing championship
As Edo State hosts a boxing show tagged: Yucateco Boxing PAN African Championship Belt on 11 September, 2024 at 19 Ihonvbere compound, off Okpuje road, Uzebba Luleha, Owan West L.G.A Edo State, one of the participating clubs, Aiyegbeni Boxing Club, has paid homage to the Royal Father of the Irrua Kingdom.
The former Senior Special Assistant to Edo State Governor and one time leader of the Esan Central Legislative Arm, Hon. Felix Ibhade, led the boxing contingent to the Palace of His Royal Highness, Alhaji W.O. Momodu, the Ogieirrua of Irrua Kingdom and Okaijiesan of Esanland, for royal blessing.
Hon. Ibhade, while speaking, said the Ogieirrua of Irrua Palace is one of the most respected Palaces in Edo State and the home town of the late foremost boxing promoter, High Chief Francis Aiyegbeni who had left a big impact within the boxing circle in Nigeria, Africa, and the world over.
Welcoming the contingent to his Palace, the Royal father commended Hon. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu for his efforts at developing boxing at the grassroots and charged the pugilists to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship during the fights just as he promised them of the good hospitality of his people during the championship
The event is part of efforts mapped out by the President of Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN), Hon. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, Chairman/CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, to develop boxing, especially at the grassroots.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of BPAN, Edna Bola Aiyegbeni, who is also the proprietor of the Francis Aiyegbeni Boxing Club has expressed her delight to the management of Yucateco for taking the boxing show to Edo State, especially her root, which is Irrua in Owan West L.G.A Edo State, urging her boxers to do her father proud by winning all their bouts during the boxing championship.
