Lawal, Munirat, others shine as 2nd National Deaf table tennis championship ends in Lagos
Activities marking the 2nd National Open Deaf Men and Women Table Tennis Championship has ended in Lagos with Lawal Sani from Oyo State and Munirat Tomosi of Lagos State emerging the men’s and women’s singles champions.
Playing in the men’s singles final, Lawal Sani defeated Oloniyi Sunday from Ondo State 3-0 ( 11-9, 11-8, 11-6) to emerge Champion while Munirat Tokosi of Lagos State oustroked Idaya Jimoh 3-1( 3-11, 11-9, 11-4 and 11-6) in an all Lagos women’s singles final
The men’s double title went to the pair of Olupitan and Badmus who defeated the Oyo State duo of Amole and Lawal in a trilling final while the Ogun State pair of Taiwo and Alonge claimed the women’s doubles title at the expense of Adisa and Sadiat whom they defeated in the final.
The duo of Lawal Sani and Munirat Tokosi combined effectively to win the mixed doubles title when they outclassed the pair of Sulaimon and Lawal from Oyo State in the final.
A total 29 players made up of 13 males and 16 females drawn from 5 states of the Federation namely Delta, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Oyo took part in the two-day championship held from 13-14 December 2024, at the knock-up hall of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation ( NTTF), National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The championship was witnessed by both the President of the Deaf Development Initiative (DSDI)
Afolabi Dahunsi and the Chairman, Amuda Yusuf who were on hand to present medals and cash awards to the winners.
