NUJ : Igbaroola canvasses for PJAN representation at National EXCO

The chairperson of Photo Journalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) Lagos State Chapter, Princess Alaba Igbaroola has called for elevation of PJAN to the National Executive Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Princess Igbaroola made the call during the PJAN annual symposium/Award ceremony held in Lagos Friday, December, 20, 2024.

According to her, there is need for PJAN to be represented at the National Executive Council of NUJ like National Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) and Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN); adding that this could be done through constitutional amendments.

“This integration would recognize PJAN as an integral part of NUJ and such a step would not only elevate our standard but also solidify our contribution to the broader field of Journalism in Nigeria”.

Speaking at the event,the National President of NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya who was honoured as PJAN Patron said that he accepts the honour wholeheartedly, promising that the role of PJAN in NUJ will not be undermined.

Comrade Yahaya who was represented by former secretary of Lagos NUJ, Abiodun Akinbusuyi further said that he is humbled by the honour been the first “NUJ president to be honoured as PJAN patron”.

Also in his goodwill message to PJAN,the chairman of Lagos NUJ comrade Adeleye Ajayi commended the association and pledged collaboration particularly in the area of capacity building for the members.
In his remark at the occasion, the Deputy Provost of NIgeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Dr.Boye Ola urged photo journalists to think outside the box and “leverage on what they know”.

Dr.Ola who represented the second guest speaker Dr.Olusola Akeredolu advised PJAN members to turn to writers and do multi media stories beside taking photographs, stressing that “tomorrow doesn’t belong to anybody”.

Also in his goodwill message the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Majesty, Oba Latif Oladimeji Egbeyemi (Madarikan 1) Ologbo of Ogba kingdom commended PJAN for a successful end of the year symposium.

Oba Egbeyemi who came with all his Baale’s admonished PJAN executives to continue the good work they are doing particularly in the area of capacity building.

Among the award recipients are: Rt.Hon.Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly who was honoured for his exemplary leadership in re-positioning the House and his support for PJAN.

Other awardees at the event includes;
Comrade Alhassan Yahaya ,honoured as PJAN patron.

Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde honoured for breaking barriers as the first female Deputy National President

Dr.Taiwo Afolabi honoured for his exceptional leadership and contributions for the growth and success of PJAN.

Dr.Adeola Ekine recognized for an exemplary efforts for repositioning women Journalists.
