NUSA felicitates President-elect, new NANSSA leadership

Nigerians in South Africa have advised the newly elected Executive Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students South Africa (NANSSA), to discharge its duties with utmost integrity, adhering to the constitution of the body and strive to excel in all endeavors.
Nigerians under the aegis of Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA) gave the advice in a congratulatory message by its President, Prince Smart Nwobi on Tuesday.
The new NANSSA leadership was elected on January 18, 2025, by 41 delegates from 13 tertiary institutions in that country with Mr. Ikechukwu Onumajulu of the University of Pretoria emerging as President.
“A warm congratulations to the NANSSA leadership, particularly President-elect Mr. Ikechukwu Onumajulu and the Electoral matters committee (Elcom) Chairman, David Yusuf, (PhD), and his entire team.
“As the NANSSA BOT Chairman, I’m honored to acknowledge your dedication and commitment to the organisation.
“I charge the President-elect Hon. Ikechukwu Onumajulu to discharge his duties with utmost integrity, adhering to the constitution of NANSSA and striving to excel in all endeavors.
“May your leadership be guided by wisdom, transparency, and a passion for the betterment of all Nigerian students,’’ Nwobi said.
The NUSA President, who is also the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of NANSSA, thanked the Elcom team for their tireless efforts in driving the organisation forward, noting that their expertise and leadership had been instrumental in shaping the future of NANSSA’’.
NANSSA, the apex Nigerian student organisation in South Africa which has had six successive Presidents, has been catering for and representing the interests of Nigerian students in South Africa since its founding in 2008.
“Once again, congratulations to the NANSSA leadership on this remarkable achievement. I look forward to witnessing the organization’s continued growth and success under your guidance.”
Other elected members of the exco are Favour Amarachukwu Chukwuka of Regenesys Law School (Vice-President), David Asakitikpi of North West University (Secretary-General) and Zainab Ogunlana, Tshwane University of Technology (Assistant Secretary-General).
The rest are Anita Solarin of University of Pretoria and Ann Asakitikpi, Independent Institute of Education formerly Monash University, (Directors of Events/Public Relations), Grace Ikwen, University of Johannesburg (Director of Welfare) and Fredrick Rotimi George (Provost).
Some of the more than 15 Nigerian Diplomatic and community groups that witnessed the elections, include The Nigeria High Commission, Nigerian Consulate, NUSA executive committee, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Northern Nigeria in South Africa (NNISA), Yoruba Group and National Association of Nigeria Students in the Diaspora.
