As the second stanza of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, progresses, the Technical Manager of Heartland FC, Coach Emmanuel Amuneke, has hinted that his club’s focus is on securing points every matchday whether playing home or away.
Amuneke who spoke to members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Imo State chapter in reaction to the Naze Millionaires’ 2-0 victory over Rivers United at the Dan Anyiam Sports Stadium Owerri last Sunday, noted that the current stage of the game is about picking points in each encounter.
The Technical Manager revealed that his boys are fully trained and prepared for the coming games just as they ensured that Rivers United was beaten in last match.
While commending Coach Finidi George and his Rivers United players, the Heartland FC gaffer remarked that his team defeated the visitors because they were not allowed the space to play what Coach Finidi thought them for the Owerri encounter.
Fielding questions, the Heartland boss described the league as a ‘journey yet to be determined,’ he dismissed the idea of making promises on future matches.
“There’s still a long way to go in the league, it’s therefore difficult to determine the final outcome. I don’t believe in making promises but I make sure I remain focused on our strategies for each match. My target is to Garner points as the league progresses.
“My major concern in every situation is to look at the players and take good care of them especially when injured with a view to their recovering before the matches,” he added.
Commenting on their next match with Katsina United, Coach Amuneke assured continued improvement in the skills and tactical approach to the coming matches with a view to climbing up in the league table.
