Heartland Queens FC dismal performance worries fans

By Athan Agbakwuru, Owerri

The lacklustre performance of Heartland Queens FC of Owerri has continued to worry the team’s home fans especially as it has been unable to win a match both home and away in the ongoing 2024/2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL.

The Owerri Landladies last Wednesday played a disappointing goalless draw in the matchday 5 fixtures with Dannaz Ladies of Lagos, played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

Following the needles goaless draw,. Heartland Queens now have just two points from 5 matches to occupy the 7th position on the league table.

The aggrieved fans who had high expectations for the team’s first victory was however disappointed as they watched the home team miss several scoring chances beginning from the kick off to the last blast of the whistle.

While Owerri queens dominated the game from the onset, its frontliners displayed chronic inexperience and the needed dexterity to outsmart the visitors’ defence.

Immediately after the match, angry fans on the sidelines blamed the team’s misfortune on Coach Obi Ogala’s approach to the match and demanded for his immediate sack, if he loses the next match in the series.

One of them, Magnus Amaechi from Akwakuma described the coach as unserious and inexperienced; saying had not played football before becoming a coach.

According to him, the coach was merely the chairman of the fans’ club before being drafted to coach the state’s female team.
