DAY 2 HANDBALL ACTION HEATS UP AT THE NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL 

The Day 2 handball event at the National Sports Festival tagged ‘Gateway Games 2024’ continued in electrifying fashion on Tuesday with thrilling encounters across both the male and female categories at the Alake Sports Center.

In the female, Hosts Ogun State delighted their fans with a commanding 32–20 victory over Kogi in a game that showcased their intent to dominate the tournament.
Ogun took a 16–11 lead into halftime and never looked back, extending their advantage in the second half with crisp passing, resolute defense, and clinical finishing.

Meanwhile, Edo State put up a ruthless display against Kano, cruising to a 33–15 win. Edo led 15–08 at halftime and maintained their grip on the game with superior teamwork and fast breaks to finish strongly as the winner of the match 

In the men’s category, Team FCT Abuja delivered a solid performance to defeat Kano 29–20. A blistering first half saw FCT race to a 15–07 lead, setting the tone for a confident second-half showing wherein they did enough to emerge 29-20 victorious over their opponent from Kano.

One of the most exciting matches of the day saw Adamawa edge Enugu in a nail-biting 32–31 win. Enugu led 16–15 at halftime, but Adamawa rallied strongly in the closing minutes, capitalizing on key turnovers to clinch a dramatic victory in what was arguably the match of the day.

In the final male encounter, Sokoto proved too strong for Osun, claiming a 26–18 win. Sokoto took a commanding 14–06 lead into the break and expertly managed the game’s tempo to seal all two points.

1) OGUN—KOGI  32–20 (16–11). 

2) EDO–KANO 33–15 (15–08). 

MALE:

1) FCT–KANO 29–20 (15–07). 

2) ENUGU–ADAMAWA  31–32 (16–15). 

3) OSUN–SOKOTO  18–26 (06 –14).
