Ondo State High Court fixes date for ruling in the LGBTQ case involving Gladys Ajayi

The Honourable Justice A. O. Adebusoye, of the Ondo State High Court 2 Akure on Tuesday has scheduled a hearing to render a decision in a case involving bisexuality brought against Gladys Ajayi, a 31-year-old woman who was apprehended by the Amotekun Security Network Ondo State and turned over to the Police on November 10, 2023.

Inspector Ade Falayi, the Police prosecutor, claims that Gladys Ajayi was caught while committing an illegal conduct with her lesbian girlfriend, Olasunkanmi Mary Falade, who has since taken to her heels. This is the reason why the prosecution’s witness was delayed.

It will be recalled that the state’s governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, declared in a statement that his administration would not support any organization that advocated for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the state. Following escalating concerns over the actions of organizations purportedly advocating same-sex marriage in the state, the governor issued the decree.

Gladys Ajayi, the victim, told reporters about her ordeal, saying that one of her Muslim fanatic coworkers, a teacher, witnessed her engaging in sexual activity with her lesbian girlfriend, Mary, and proceeded to notify the Amotekun Corps.

“I’m a teacher with Brilliant Group of Schools, Temidire Street, Off Road Block Area, Akure, where we were caught red-handed with Olasunkanmi Mary Falade, my partner who was lucky to have escaped, and I was beaten mercilessly in the open before I was handed over to the police,” said the victim.

She was arrested on 10th November 2023, and, however, promised not to engage in such an act again if she’s able to get off the hook.

A few years ago, in Ondo State, Nigeria, the battle against LGBTQ rights resurfaced with greater intensity. The governor’s directive came on the heels of rising tensions over the activities of groups allegedly promoting same-sex marriage in the state.
