WAFU B Tourney Finals: Galant Bayelsa Queens lose narrowly to Asec Mimosas

Nigeria’s representative in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifiers, Bayelsa Queens Friday evening narrowly lost in the finals to home side, Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire by 9- 10 penalties after their game ended 1-1 at regulation time.

The match which was decided at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro saw both teams showing some classical display of football to the admiration of the fans, but it was the Ivoriens that had the victory song in the resultant spot kick after the Nigerians lost one of their kicks to send the home fans into wild celebration.

Bayelsa Queens, winners in 2022, were unbeaten throughout the tournament. They opened their campaign with a 2–1 win over Police Ladies, eased past ASKO FC of Togo 3–0, and crushed Sam Nelly 4–1 to top their group.

They edged AS GNN of Niger 2–1 in their opener, brushed aside USFA 3–0, and then powered past Police Ladies 4–1 in the semi-finals.

With this result, ASEC Mimosas have secured a place at this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League.
