Members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) today joined millions of Nigerians in marking the country’s 65th independence anniversary.
The club led by it’s National Chairman, Rev. Amb. Samuel Ikpea with other executives defied the early mourning rain to move round Surulere ,Lagos, and it’s environs, dressed in the club’s colours,displaying the country’s flag and playing their musical instruments to the delight of enthusiastic crowd.
The parade took the members from their secretariat located at the ever busy Funsho Williams Avenue to the National Stadium, from which they went to Ojuelegba and back to their secretariat, singing and dancing to the rhythm of various Nigerian music.
Speaking at the event, National Chairman of the foremost Supporters Club in the country, Rev. Amb. Samuel Ikpea explained that they rolled out the drums to celebrate the country because as positive minded people, they believe in the unity of the country and they have to celebrate in keeping with the theme of this year’s anniversary which is ‘ All Hands Must Be On Deck For A Greater Nation’.
He reminded Nigerians that for a country to achieve greatness, all hands must be on deck; they must do away with political, tribal or religious sentiments even as he expressed confidence that the country will come out from it’s current economic predicament.
” I want to tell Nigerians not to lose hope because the country will bounce back to be great again. Nigerians should realize that the country was once great before it went down, but we will rise again and so there’s need for every Nigerian to be patriotic and support the government in power to enable the country move forward”, he stated.
Ikpea also expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2026 World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico noting that God does his things in a wonderful way.
He was also confident that Nigerian sports will witness a new branding considering the calibre of technocrats at the helm of affairs.
” I’m positive that our sports is on the right track and will soon witness a rebranding considering the calibre of people incharge. At the NFF , we have Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau while at the NSC Mallam Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olopade are in charge.
“These are tested sports administrators and with them at the helm of affairs, there’s hope for the sector”, he concluded.
