Akwa Ibom FA Congratulates Super Eagles on World Cup Play-off Spot, Hails NFF, AKSG, Fans for Hitch-Free Qualifiers

The Akwa Ibom State Football Association has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, following their emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Tuesday evening.

In a statement issued after the match, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr Samuel Umoh, lauded the Super Eagles for keeping Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes alive.

He said, “I congratulate the Super Eagles for making our country proud and for keeping the dream of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive. The path may be long, but I am optimistic that the end will be glorious for Nigeria.”

Mr Umoh also expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, the Akwa Ibom State Government, football stakeholders, and the fans for their collective efforts in ensuring a successful and hitch-free qualification series, with Uyo once again serving as a befitting home for the national team.

He added, “We must commend the NFF leadership, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and all football stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make these qualifiers smooth and successful. Special thanks go to the passionate fans who turned out in large numbers to support the team — their energy and commitment made a big difference.”

Nigeria will now face Gabon in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, scheduled to take place in Morocco from November 13 to 16.
