The representative of the Nigeria Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance ( NAPHER-SD ), Dr. Ajibola Gbenga Samson has issued a public statement to warn against any unlawful plan to intimidate the National Sports Commission from conducting a free, fair, credible and transparent elections in Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria .
Dr. Ajibola’s statement reads,
” I wish to address recent developments that is threatening the integrity and fairness of our electoral process.
We strongly oppose the behind-closed-door appeals and attempt to jettison the rights of board members, which have been used to manipulate the upcoming elections.
Specifically, we denounce the efforts to allow an individual who has spent nine years in office and has previously called the Director- General of the National Sports Commission ( NSC ), names to remain in position while another more qualified candidate is being threatened, blackmailed and intimidated and being denied the opportunity to contest to the post of President.
Such actions clearly undermines the principles of transparency and democracy.
We say ‘ big’ no to these unfair tactics.
We demand that the Gymnastics Federation coducts a true zonal and general election free from manipulation , intimidation and blackmail . It is essential that the election process is transparent , credible and adhere to the procedures reflecting the will of the people.
The National Sports Commission ( NSC) must stand firm for the truth .
The whole world is watching, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that the integrity of our sport is preserved.
We call on all stake holders to prioritize fairness, transparency and integrity in the upcoming elections.
Let us uphold the principles of democracy and justice for the future of gymnastics in our nation.
October 25th should be a day for real election and not a staged managed election .
The NSC should not be threatened because some people are calling on the President of the nation for situations that is not true by trying to work on emotions of Mr. President.
Our President, stand by truth and justice. No man should be bigger than the National Sports Commission.
ALL INTEREST IS IMPORTANT.
Let us do election, anyone who wins will carry the Federation to the next level.
We say NO to intimidation,
NO to blackmail, No to bargaining. Let us go to the election. Let the board members speak for themselves. Let the board members decide”,concludes
