CAF Champions League: Mamelodi Sundowns Wallop Remo Stars 5–1 in Abeokuta

Nigeria’s representative in this year’s CAF Champions League, Remo Stars were a shadow of themselves as they lost heavily to South African Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns in Abeokuta.
The match, played at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, saw the visitors dominate all departments of the game with their tactical discipline to run away with a 5-1 victory.
Goals from Tashreeq Matthews and Peter Shalulile handed the South African champions a comfortable 2–0 lead heading into halftime.
Sundowns maintained their dominance in the second half, adding a third through Miguel Reisinho in the 60th minute.
Substitutes Arthur De Oliveira and Katlego Ntsabeleng later completed the rout with goals in the 74th and 84th minutes, respectively.
Remo Stars could only manage a consolation goal in the 76th minute scored by Samson Olasupo
With this result, the Nigerian representatives face an uphill task going into the second leg in South Africa that will determine which of the sides that will progress to the money spinning Group stage of the competition.
