KADMAM Calls for Judicious Utilisation and Community Tracking of the ₦32.9 Billion BHCPF Allocation
The Maternal Accountability Mechanism in Kaduna Initiative (KADMAM) has commended the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for the transparent release of ₦32.9 billion under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF.
In a statement signed by Garba Muhammad, Co-Chair of the agency, it noted that this renewed commitment to primary health care financing represents a crucial step toward strengthening health service delivery across Nigeria, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
It noted that as a State-Led Accountability Mechanism (SLAM) dedicated to promoting transparency, responsiveness, and improved maternal and child health outcomes, KADMAM calls on Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities, Ward Development Committees, and Local Government Health Authorities to ensure that every Naira of the fund is judiciously utilized for its intended purpose of improving essential health services, infrastructure, and community access to quality care.
KADMAM further notes that its planned spot check under the quarterly #OpenKadunaHealthSector initiative has already provided an important platform for communities and stakeholders to track the flow and utilisation of BHCPF funds at PHC facilities.
This participatory accountability effort, it said offers practical evidence and a collaborative framework to ensure that funds are properly used to strengthen health systems and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
KADMAM therefore urges citizens, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, and the media to actively participate in monitoring and tracking how these funds are spent in their local health facilities.
“Community ownership, vigilance, and transparency remain essential to prevent leakages, ensure value for money, and guarantee that the funds truly benefit the people they are meant to serve.
“This fund belongs to the people. Communities must not stand aside. We must demand openness, track expenditures, and hold ourselves and our institutions accountable for every kobo spent,
Finally, KADMAM reaffirms its readiness to work closely with government agencies, development partners, and oversight bodies to promote effective utilisation, continuous tracking, and public reporting of BHCPF disbursements across Kaduna State and beyond.
