2025 Edo Cricket Men’s League Bowls Off Today In Benin City
..As Akpata receives SWAN National Award
The stage is set for the commencement of the 2025 Edo State Cricket (Male) League today Saturday, November 8,with U-17 Cricket club and Integrity Force Cricket club; and No limit Cricket Club paired against each other in the curtain raiser matches.
The highly rated annual Cricket league tournament which takes the T20 format will see 8 teams battle in a round Robin regular league season which will then climax with a super 4 playoffs for the top 4 teams in the regular season.
The tournament is expected to be played within four weeks as the closing ceremony is scheduled for 7th of December, 2025.
The eight clubs registered for the tournament are the No Limit Cricket Club, Invictus Cricket Club, Crusaders Cricket Club, Integrity Force Cricket Club, Uniben Cricket Club, Dolphins Cricket Club, Delta Force Cricket Club and the Under 17 Cricket Club.
The High Performance Centre For Cricket, Edo Boys High School, Ugbowo, Benin City and the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cricket, Iyoba college, Ugbowo, Benin City are the two venues that will host matches during the tournament.
The opening games of the league will see two matches played simultaneously at the two venues. At the High performance centre, Edo Boys High School, the U-17 Cricket club will take on Integrity force Cricket club; while No limit Cricket Club will square up against Invictus Cricket club at the Centre of Excellence for Women Cricket, Iyoba college. Both matches will kick off exactly at 9:00 AM.
Later in the day, Delta force Cricket club will be in action against the U-17 Cricket club at the High performance centre, Edo boys High School while Dolphins and Crusaders will lock horns at the Centre of Excellence for women Cricket, Iyoba College with both matches holding at exactly 1:30pm simultaneously.
Meanwhile,the Chairman, Edo State Cricket Association and Federation President Dr. Uyi Akpata has been honoured by the National body of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria,SWAN with SWAN Distinguished Service Award(SDSA).
The SWAN National Award is in recognition of his immense contribution to sports development in the country and outstanding support to SWAN.
The award was presented on Friday, October 31,2025 at the MKA Abiola Stadium,Abuja and received by the chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Edo State Chapter Comrade Kehinde Osagiede on behalf of the Nigeria Cricket Federation President.
The award ceremony was part of events marking the SWAN Diamond Jubilee celebration in Abuja.
