Saudi Solidarity Games: Adeshina Motunrayo Wins Silver In Women’s Boxing Event
Nigeria’s sole female pugilist at the 6th edition of the Saudi Solidarity Games In Riyadh, Adeshina Zainab Motunrayo has bagged a Silver Medal in the squared ropes sports.
Zainab showed grit and tenacity before she succumbed to a superior technique and firepower of Turkey’s Rabia Topuz in their Women’s 51kg final bout on Monday night.
The bout was stopped in the third (3) round by the referee after Zainab received two counts in the said round.
Motunrayo, who had earlier defeated Algeria’s Mansouri Fatiha (4-1) in the semi-finals, takes solace in the Silver Medal while her opponent Rabia walks away with the Gold.
The Nigerian Boxing contingent led by coach Oyeleye Abayomi has Raheem Ridwan Male (65kg) welterweight and Adeshina Zainab in the female (51kg) Flyweight.
Ridwan, on the other hand, lost in the semi-finals to Uzbekistan’s Abdullahi Madaminov by Split decision (4-1) after three rounds of action in the Men’s (65kg) contest.
The Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) Hon. Omonlei Imadu has praised the boxers for their courage at the event in Riyadh as he assures of Nigeria’s dominance in subsequent editions.
The VP said the Federation will now shift its focus to prepare the country’s pugilists for major international qualifiers in 2026, as well as several grassroots programs aimed to discover boxing talents across the nation
