Ikoyi Club 1938 presents N2 million cheque, Foodstuffs to Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care & Treatment Home

As part of it’s corporate social responsibility function, the leading social cultural recreation club in the country, Ikoyi Club 1938 took it’s philanthropy to the less privileged in the society when it presented a cheque of N2 million and some food items to
Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care & Treatment Home, St Finbars College Road, Akoka, Lagos.
Making the presentations which included cartons of indomie noodles and a bag of garri, Thursday , November, 14, 2025, Chairman of the club Barrister Akinwumi Akintola who led other executive members to the Home, said the gesture was done in other to ameliorate their sufferings; saying that the club will continue to identify with the home and similar centres that care for people with disability and the less privileged in the society.

” We’ re here today as part of what we do regularly to make an impact in the society by identifying with people in need.
“At Ikoyi Club 1938, we have a charity account dedicated to the less privileged members of the society and that was why we thought it wise to visit this Home and make some donations to them.
” We had a lot of conversation with the Principal and her Vice and they told us a lot about the Home which is quite emotional. We have also taken a lot from here and hopefully, we’ll have further conversation with them to see other areas the club can render help to the Home”, he stressed.

The Chairman further spoke on the need for corporate organisations, philanthropists and fortunate members of the society not to abandon the Home but to always identify with it to make life better for them just as he canvassed for the creation of more awareness for the Home and similar centres in Lagos State.

“My appeal is that fortunate members of the public should .not abandon this Home or similar centres harbouring people with disability because we need to support them financially, materially and morally.

“We have also seen a case here of one of them who have gone to school and as such, they need all our support so that they don’t feel abandoned.
” There’s also need for the media to create more awareness about such homes so that people will know their plight and needs and render help to them”, he concluded.
Welcoming members of the club, the Principal, Mrs. Oyeniran Abosade Iyabowale expressed her appreciation for the kind gesture noting that the entire inmates and management of the Home are happy with the donations.
According to her, the Home was established in 1960 by late Mrs. Modupe Cole but was taken over by the Lagos State Government in 1976 because of increased population of the intakes.
She explained that since then the state government has been doing a lot in ameliorating the plight of the children but was quick to add that they need more support from public spirited individuals and organisations since government cannot do it alone.
The Principal appealed to Nigerians not to abandon the Home reminding them that disability is not liability and the children if well nurtured can develop skills that will make them self reliance in future.
“The Lagos State Government is doing a lot for the home but since the government cannot do it alone, I appeal to philanthropists, corporate organizations, religious bodies and public spirited individuals to always identify with the home.
” It’s equally important for people to realize that disability is not liability and that there’s ability in disability. Some of the children when well trained can develop skills in tailoring, shoemaking, handbag and key holder making and of course, one of them made the key holder I am presently using and so they deserve care and encouragement”, she stated.
Mrs. Iyabowale reminded Nigerians that the Christmas season is around the corner and they should remember the Home in their celebration
