Africa Senior Squash Championship: Egypt Dethrones Nigeria to emerge Champions

Egypt at the weekend beat Nigeria at the just concluded Africa Senior Squash Championship held in Kampala, Uganda, dethroned the defending champion, Nigeria to emerge champions.
The most outstanding match was the game between Nigeria’s top seed, Olufunmilayo Gabriel and his Egyptian opponent in the final match of the men’s team event which the Egyptians won 3-2.
That victory over Nigeria caused wide jubilations in the Egyptians camp.
Unlike last year that Nigeria clinched the men and women’s team categories and the men’s non PSA category, this year was a different ball game as Nigeria came second behind Egypt in both the men’s and women’s categories but won the women’s non PSA event.
Egypt swept all the titles by winning the men’s singles, women’s singles and men and women’s team event categories.
They only missed the women’s singles non PSA category won by Nigeria’s Rofiat Abdulazeez who defeated South African Helena Suzana Alleta 3-2 in the final.
