MVM Dome and Duna Arena confirmed as main venues for World Aquatics Championships – Budapest 2027
World Aquatics and the Budapest 2027 Organising Committee have officially confirmed MVM Dome and the Duna Arena as the main venues for the World Aquatics Championships – Budapest 2027, which will take place from 26 June to 18 July 2027.
These World Aquatics Championships will mark the third time Budapest has hosted the event in nine years, having previously hosted in 2017 and again in 2022. Budapest also hosted the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in 2024, further solidifying its status as a global hub for aquatics.
The MVM Dome, the region’s largest multifunctional arena, will host the swimming and water polo tournaments, featuring two pools so competition can happen simultaneously. Meanwhile, Duna Arena, one of the world’s premier aquatic facilities, will be the stage for diving and artistic swimming events. This decision ensures greater opportunities for spectators to be able to enjoy the competitions first hand. A less compressed schedule and optimal competition and training conditions will also directly benefit the athletes.
Speaking about the confirmation of venues, World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam said;

At World Aquatics we believe that water is for everyone, and through it, we want to bring unforgettable experiences to everyone, whether you are a fan cheering from the stands or an athlete competing at the highest level. We believe these arenas will allow us to do just that.”
World Aquatics Executive Director Brent Nowicki stated;
“Budapest has proven time and again that it is a world-class host city and both the MVM Dome and the Duna Arena are exceptional venues. We are thrilled that they will combine to offer more opportunities to experience what promises to be some great competitions. With our new headquarters and state-of-the-art training centre coming to Budapest too, the city is becoming a central hub for athletes from around the world. We are thrilled with the progress towards the World Aquatics Championships and are looking forward to seeing the world’s best athletes compete in such a great setting.”

“New opportunities have opened up now that we have several world-class sports facilities, allowing us to plan with a much broader portfolio of venues,” continued Dr. Schmidt. “Thanks to the MVM Dome, we can ensure that around ten thousand fans can cheer on the world’s best swimmers and water polo players on site.”
Budapest is ideally situated close to a number of high-quality open water swimming locations and benefits from a great range of high diving options, with the final venues to be confirmed and announced at a later date.
