Nwabali denies Sallah AFCON medal as Eagles win bronze

Super Eagles Saturday night defeated Pharaohs of Egypt by 4-2 penalties to clinch the bronze medal at the 2025 AFCON.
The match played at the Casablanca’s
Stade Mohammed V Casablanca saw both teams playing cautiously, with tactical discipline and missed chances till the full 90 minutes without any of the teams finding the back of the net.

Throughout the duration of the match, the Egyptians depended on defensive play, frustrating the Nigerian attack.

The Super Eagles, on the other hand, controlled much of the possession but struggled to find the clinical edge required to break the deadlock till the final whistle

Following the tournament’s regulations for the third-place fixture, the match headed straight to a shootout after without going through extra time. And at the end of the penalty shootout, Nigeria triumphed 4-2 on penalties with Nwabali stopping Mohammed Sallah’s kick.

The Super Eagles’ victory ensures they leave the tournament on a high note, reclaiming their spot among the continent’s best team.

The tournament will come to conclusion Sunday when the Atlas Lions of Morocco meet Teranga Lions of Senegal in the finals.
